Team Selection
As opposing captains for this year's Ryder Cup style competition, Matt Blackburn and Ben Young have been trash talking each other for weeks. From their posts of responsibility to keep The Lakes Golf Club in great condition, this will turn out to be the ultimate in a "Turf War". There are a lot of bragging rights at stake as Ben has a perfect record of being on the winning side of the Lobster Boil competition in both efforts. On the other hand, Matt has yet to have his name etched on the trophy after three campaigns. He has something to prove.
After finishing their shift preparing The Lakes Golf Club for play last Wednesday, Matt Blackburn and Ben Young faced off in an 18-hole match to determine who gets first pick in the draft of competitors for this Fifth Lobster Boil Invitational. Matt came out with a vengeance, putting a beating on Ben, the likes of which Ben has yet to experience in his Lobster Boil matches. Below, is a snapshot of Matt double-checking the card after they shook hands on the 14th hole, "Did I just beat him 5 and 4?"
The Draft
The draft was broken into four rounds as participants were ranked by handicap. Matt's first pick was the Irishmen, Keith Mulcahy whose Singles record against Ben has some history. Ben quickly countered to select Matt's arch nemesis, Bob Walker. When the picking was done, we had two teams with an average handicap index of 14.6 and 14.7 as at the date of selection.
