Big Break Competition Rules

12 pm on Friday after Morning Round

What to Bring:

-       4 or 5 practice golf balls that you don’t mind losing

-       your putter

-       whatever wedges you want to use from within 100 yards (incl. flop shot)

-       ball marker

Round One  (Short Game Skills)

-       estimated time to complete and tabulate scores – 1 hour

-       Everyone plays 3 consecutive shots at three different stations (a bunker shot, a flopwall shot, and a simple chip)

-       Points are given based on proximity as follows:

o   In the hole – 15 points

o   Within 4 feet – 7 points

o   Within 8 feet – 5 points

o   On the green – 2 points

o   Miss the green – 0 points

Individual’s cumulative points scored with total 9 shots determines positioning for second round (Round one scores will be used for future round tiebreaks, so every shot counts)

Round Two (Alternate Shot Pairs)

-       estimated time to complete and tabulate scores – 1 hour, 15 minutes

-       players are paired based on results of Round one in which the player with the highest score is paired with the player with the lowest score in Round One …the second highest with second lowest, and so on.  (Ties are broken based in alphabetic order using the last name)

-       As a team, you play three holes of aggregate alternate shot score.

-       The player with the lowest score in round one makes the tee shot on the first and third holes and the player with the highest score starts the second hole

-       Only the top four teams advance to round three (8 players)

-       Ties to advance to round three are based on the pair’s total score in round one.  If there is still a tie, the advancing pair will be determined by the highest individual score in round one

Round Three (Smash the Glass Elimination Round)

-       estimated time to complete – less than 30 minutes

-       reverts back to individual play for the 8 players that advance

-       Each of the 8 players remaining will get four consecutive shots from a moderate distance.  Each time the glass is smashed, the player gets a point

-       Top 4 players advance based on total number of breaks

-       Ties are broken for the last advancing position in a sudden death shootout

-       Even if you are eliminated after Round Three, you might want to caddy for your partner in the final round as you still have a chance to win some money (see below)

Round Four (Round Robin Match Play Final)

-       estimated time to complete – 30 minutes

-       Three holes of match play will be played by the foursome in a crossover such that each player plays one hole against each of the three other finalists.   You get a point for winning a hole, half for halving, and zero for losing

-       After three holes, the player with the most points is awarded First Place, second most points Second Place, etc

-       Any ties will be broken by returning to the flop shot wall challenge where each player will be given three attempts to clear the wall.  The closest ball to the pin after three shots will determine the winner of the tie.  If more than two players are in a tie, there will be an elimination round of three shots to eliminate one player.  A second three shot round will be played to eliminate the next player, etc if necessary
